What is a jockey box?

A jockey box, also known as a beer dispenser or beer cooler, is a portable device used for dispensing cold beer from a keg without relying on electricity or refrigeration. It consists of an ice chest or cooler that is filled with ice and water, a cold plate or coil that runs through the ice and the water, and a dispensing faucet or tap. The keg of beer is connected to the jockey box through tubing, and as the beer passes through the cold plate or coil, it is cooled to the desired temperature before being dispensed into a glass or other container. Jockey boxes are commonly used at outdoor events, such as festivals, concerts, and picnics, where refrigeration is not readily available. They are also a popular choice for homebrewers and microbreweries as they provide a convenient and cost-effective way to serve cold beer on tap.
